In this post, we’ll break down what active faith in Jesus Christ means for us today.
In my previous post, I said that repentance is the first command of Jesus we should follow.
But it’s difficult to talk about repentance without faith.
And it’s difficult to talk about faith without repentance.
They are two sides to the same coin, because they fit perfectly together.
Jesus tells us to turn from our sinful ways (repentance), and turn toward Him (faith).
This is repentance and faith working together.
But why is this important?
Active Faith in Jesus Leads to Eternal Life
John 6:40
“For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in Him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
You can’t inherit eternal life (through faith) until you first let go of your old life (through repentance).
We saw earlier, through repentance we receive forgiveness for sins.
But through active faith in Jesus Christ we receive eternal life.
What is active faith?
First, I’ll say what faith is not. Faith is not information.
Let’s use an example of a chair in a room. “I believe that the chair exists” is a fact.
Instead, sitting down in the chair knowing it will hold you is active faith.
There are many Christians who believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died and rose again. This is just information.
The Christians with active faith trust Jesus daily, and lean upon Him for everything in their life.
The world criticizes followers of Jesus and call Him “a crutch”. They see these followers leaning their weight on Him in everyday life.
Good. Lean your full weight upon the Lord.
But you can’t do that until after you’ve repented of your own way of doing things.
